We’re counting down to the Learn Tourism Conference in Richmond, March 9–10, 2026, and if you love great food as much as we do, Downtown is your playground. Here are a variety of beloved local spots within an easy walk of our host hotel, plus a quick look at the restaurants inside the historic Hilton Richmond Downtown itself.

On-Site at the Hilton Richmond Downtown

  • 1885 Café & Market – A nod to the building’s department-store roots, this lobby spot serves regional breakfast/lunch favorites and grab-and-go options.

  • Gather & Hem – The hotel’s stylish lobby lounge for small plates and a crafted drink before or after sessions.

  • La Grotta Ristorante – A Richmond institution for Northern Italian cuisine located in the Miller & Rhoads building that houses the hotel (corner of 6th & Broad).

Perly’s Restaurant & Delicatessen

A revived Richmond legend with modern Jewish deli magic—think matzoh ball soup and wildly creative brunches that locals rave about. It’s a short stroll from the hotel and a perfect “welcome to RVA” bite.

Mama J’s Kitchen

An icon of Jackson Ward serving soul-warming classics—fried chicken, mac & cheese, collards—in a cozy setting that feels like Sunday dinner with friends.

Rappahannock

Grace Street’s seafood star from the family behind Rappahannock Oyster Co.—expect pristine oysters and creative, tide-to-table plates.

Lillie Pearl

A polished, energetic room where New American flavors meet Southern roots and global influences—don’t miss the fan-favorite small plates.

Tarrant’s Café Downtown

Housed in a historic pharmacy building, this all-day crowd-pleaser swings from she-crab soup to pizza to brunch—great for mixed tastes or groups.

Penny Lane Pub

A Liverpool-themed pub opened in 1979 by Terry O’Neill—brimming with English football vibes, British beers, and stories worth staying for.

Lemaire (at The Jefferson Hotel)

An elegant Richmond classic that celebrates Virginia’s bounty in one of the city’s most storied hotels—ideal for a celebratory dinner.

Bonus picks: two sandwich stops steps from the hotel

Secret Sandwich Society

Creative, chef-y sandwiches (think the Kennedy, Roosevelt, Truman) with a full bar, literally one block south of the Hilton on Grace Street. Perfect for a quick, high-flavor lunch between sessions.

Buttermilk & Honey

From the team behind Lillie Pearl, this downtown spot serves award-winning fried chicken sandwiches, plus gluten-free and vegan options, in the former Pop’s Market space. An easy stroll from the hotel, try the Smashville or The OG and thank us later.

Pro Tips

Explore the Walkable Downtown

The Hilton is across from the Greater Richmond Convention Center and within walking distance of many of these spots, so you can easily plan lunch runs or evening meetups without a car.

Great Coffee within One Block

In addition to the fantastic dining options, you’ll find great coffee right in the neighborhood.

For a more local and community-focused experience, venture a block or two to Urban Hang Suite. This Black-owned coffee shop in historic Jackson Ward is a local favorite, known for its great atmosphere, excellent coffee, and delicious breakfast sandwiches.

For a quick and familiar morning fix, a Starbucks is conveniently located across the street inside the Richmond Marriott.
